Breathe Easy, Europe Travelers: ETIAS Delayed Until 2026

Updated: Apr 13

If you've been planning a European adventure and found yourself tangled in the web of information surrounding the new ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System) visa, you can relax, at least for a little while longer. The implementation of this new travel requirement has been officially delayed until late 2026.

This delay comes as welcome news for travelers from over 60 non-EU countries, including the United Kingdom, who were initially slated to begin applying for ETIAS in 2024. The ETIAS, designed to enhance security and streamline travel within the Schengen Area, will now be required from late 2026.

So, what exactly is ETIAS? Essentially, it's an electronic travel authorization system, similar to the ESTA used for travel to the United States. Once implemented, travelers from eligible countries will need to apply online before their trip to Europe. The application process will involve providing personal details, answering security-related questions, and paying a €7 fee.

While the delay provides a temporary reprieve, it's essential to stay informed about the upcoming changes. When ETIAS becomes mandatory, it will be a crucial step in your travel planning. Ensure you factor in the application time and fee when budgeting for your European journey.

In the meantime, continue to plan your European adventures with confidence, knowing that the current travel regulations remain in place. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available. So, keep dreaming of those cobblestone streets, iconic landmarks, and delicious European cuisine – your adventure awaits in 2026 and beyond!
